Ah, but when it doth come to domain names to create a website for your business, it is verily important to choose the right domain name. Okay, enough of the silliness because this is quite an important factor of establishing your web presence - and typically the first step.

Firstly, the domain name can have an impact on the search engines - for example, if you choose a domain name "abc123.co.uk" nobody can tell what you do and therefore the search engines can't pick up from that what you do either. But if you choose "plumbing-services-surrey.co.uk" - everyone can clearly see that you provide plumbing services to the area of Surrey. That was an example and not a recommendation for a plumber in Surrey - although at the time of writing the domain name is available!

Secondly, the domain name can be used as part of your branding or even your business name e.g. lastminute.com is called lastminute.com limited

Sometimes, you may find that your preferred domain name is already registered (but not always in use) and so a little flexibility will be needed in order to find another suitable domain name which is available. Please bear in mind that many domain names have already been registered - found an article that claimed 162 million domain names had been registered but that was dated 2008, so it's probably far, far more than that now. Having said that there are now more domain name extensions available: .com, .net, .org, .co.uk, .tv, info, etc.
